Cartographic Bases for Urban and Rural Cadasters
Spatial representation of cadastral information must be supported by cartographic bases with clear accuracy standards. A cadastral base lacking geometric accuracy will cause technical and political strain. Taxation of wrong areas can give cause to the contributor to question the measure and even to file a lawsuit.
For urban area cadastral mapping, it is recommended to create 1:1.000 or 1:2.000 scale bases, where an error of a regulated standard will not compromise neither the position nor the calculations of the real estate area. Those bases should yet provide a level of information conducive to the right assessment of the properties’ market value.

Furthermore, it can also estimate simpler cartographic bases by defining just street blocks, but always with assured precision, whereby the transposition of field-collected information about the size of properties can be estimated, thus enabling their georeference.
Generating digital orthophotos in the abovementioned scales, based on aerial coverage in a 1:8.000 or1:4.000 scale are ideal products for those activities.
In rural areas, crop-related factors, plant cover, improvements, road system, and land steepness are especially taken into account, which are adequately and accurately defined at 1:5.000 or 1:10.000 scales.
